In this article, we will talk about the Five Cricketers with the Most ICC Player of the Year award. 

#5 Ricky Ponting (3 Awards)

Ricky Ponting holds the record for winning the most ICC Trophies as a captain. Under his leadership, Australia won two consecutive Cricket World Cups and Champion Trophies. Ricky Ponting also won the ICC Player of the Year award in 2006 and 2007.

In the year 2006, Ricky Ponting also won the award of ICC Test Player of the Year; he scored 1333 runs in 18 innings at an average of 88.

#4 MS Dhoni (4 Awards)

India’s most successful ODI captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has four ICC Awards to his name. He won the ICC ODI Player of the Year award consecutively in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, he scored 1097 runs in 26 innings at an average of 57, and in 2009, he scored 1198 runs in 24 innings at an average of 70. He was the highest run scorer in ODIs in 2009.

In the year 2011, MS Dhoni won the ICC Spirit of Cricket award, and he was also the winner of the ICC Spirit of Cricket Award of the Decade (2010-2019).

#3 Kumar Sangakkara (4 Awards)

Former Sri Lankan Captain Kumar Sangakkara too has 4 ICC Awards to his name. He has won the ICC ODI Player of the Year award twice in 2011 and 2013. In the year 2011, Sangakkara scored 1127 runs in 25 innings at an average of 51 and in the year 2013, Sangakkara scored 1201 runs in 23 innings at an average of 63.

In the year 2012, Sangakkara won two ICC awards, He became the ICC Cricketer of the Year, and He won the ICC Test Cricket of the Year award. In 2012 Sangakkara scored 767 runs from 19 innings at an average of 51. 

#2 Steve Smith (4 Awards)

Steve Smith is undoubtedly the finest Test batter of this generation. He averages 57 with the bat in Tests. Smith has so far won 4 ICC awards. He became the ICC Test Player of the Year in 2015. He scored 1474 runs in 24 innings, and his average was 73 in 2015. In 2017, too, he won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award. He scored 1305 runs in 20 innings at an average of 76.

In the year 2015, Steve Smith was also the ICC Player of the Year. In the year 2020, Steve Smith won his 4th ICC award when he was announced as the ICC Test Player of the Decade (2011-2020). He scored a total of 7164 runs in 130 innings at an average of 63, and he scored 26 Test centuries in the last decade.

#1 Virat Kohli (10 Awards)

Virat Kohli has won 10 ICC awards so far in his career, which is the highest number of ICC awards for any player. Kohli was recently announced as the ICC ODI Player of the Year for the year 2023; this was Kohli’s 4th ODI Player of the Year award. Virat Kohli last year also won the Player of the Tournament in the Cricket World Cup.

In 2018, Virat Kohli won the ICC Test Player of the Year award. He scored 1322 runs at an average of 55 in 24 innings. Virat Kohli was also the ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2017 and 2018, and in 2019, he won the ICC Spirit of Cricket award.

For the decade awards ICC announced Virat Kohli as the ICC Cricket of the Decade (2011-2020). In the last decade, Virat Kohli scored over 20K runs in 431 innings at an average of 57.
