Why Play Blackjack Online?

To answer this, we need to understand two different perspectives:

Why play Blackjack at all?

A game doesn’t survive aeons for nothing. Blackjack is fun, entertaining, and easy. Besides, it is fairly decent because it requires more skills than luck. And then, if we go by Robert Kiyosaki words, the excitement of winning should surpass the fear of losing. After all, money won is sweeter than money earned. To sum it up, playing Blackjack is worthwhile because…

  • This one requires some serious hardwork.
  • Learning the gameplay itself is an accomplishment.
  • The rules are straightforward.
  • Rational decision-making replaces guesswork and hunches.
  • There’s never a dull moment here.
  • It’s a fast paced game full of surprises.
  • The chances of beating the odds are exciting.
  • You won’t require a mighty bankroll.
  • The average RTP is a whopping 99.5%.

Why play Blackjack online and not at a land-based casino?

Now that you know how amazing this game is, here are some reasons to play Blackjack online and never at a land-based casino:

  • No communiting. You can play from the comfort of your home chewing pizza.
  • No playing in the crowd. There’s always a table available for you.
  • No time limits. Play online Blackjack for 30 minutes, an hour or all day long.
  • The House Edge is better online.
  • More competition online means plenty of bonuses and free games.
  • Play one-on-one with a virtual dealer.
  • Enjoy more variations of the game online.
  • Cashing out is super easy.
  • You could come across a Blackjack tournament freeroll
  • Have a ready recokner to refer to the basic strategies. Can you do it offline? Never!
  • No tipping. Whatever you win is yours.

What is Blackjack?

Blackjack is the American equivalent of Spanish Twenty-One card game that belongs to the 17th century gambling frenzy. With Pontoon of Britain and Vingt-et-Un of France as its distant cousins, this game has survived centuries and still going strong. Outlasting ages and trends, Blackjack has been crowned with timeless popularity.

The game has satiated every punter’s infatuation with card games and gloriously made its way to permanence as the king of tables! On this royal journey, it has also been a litmus test for high rollers who enjoy games that demand keen intellect and mathematical ability. The rules are simple and the game absolutely rewarding even for casual players. – A big reason why you would find it in almost every Indian gambling casino online.

The Table

This one is a casino banking and comparing card game that has a dealer on one side and one or more players on the other

Each player takes turn to pit against the dealer but never against one  another. In traditional land-based casinos, the dealer remains  standing with the players seated in front. The former runs the game, shuffles and deals cards, and handles the bets.

At online casinos, a virtual dealer hands you two cards from where> you need to decide  your course of action. This will definitely depending on the value of  the starting card combinations and the dealers’ cards.

The Pack

Blackjack is played with 1-8 standard decks of 52 cards. A point value is assigned to each card denomination. Face cards are valued at 10 and all other cards from 2 through 10 are their pip values.

Thus, Kings, Queens, and Jacks are worth 10 each. Aces are 1 or 11 depending on player preference. In a game of Blackjack online, the goal is to draw cards that total to 21 or closer without busting (going over 21) or outscoring the dealer.

The best bet is a two-card 21, also known as a ‘natural’ or ‘blackjack.’ In a nutshell…

blackjack hand value 10, J, Q, K10p
Value card of ace1 or 11p

The Objective

The whole point of a Blackjack game is to beat the dealer. Here are three ways to do it:

1Draw a hand value of 21 in the first two cards and land a ‘blackjack’ without the dealer doing the same.

21 blackjack
A-K gives 21 - An instant blackjack

2Outscore the dealer
without busting

Player's hand A-9 (Soft 20) vs Dealer's A-7 (soft 18) - Player wins

3 Allow the dealer to draw cards
until he busts.

Player's hand A-9 (Soft 20) vs Dealer's 10-4-K (Hard 24) - Dealer bust and Player wins

Needless to say, Ace is the most important card in Blackjack. You would lose if you bust (exceed a hand value of 21) or the dealer outscores you at the end of the game. Players should remember, Blackjack is a dealer-to-player game where other players have nothing to do with individual winnings. Unlike Poker, this isn’t a team effort.

The Gameplay

Almost every casinos online uses the same rules for Blackjack implemented at any offline gambling house. A round of Blackjack includes the following steps:

  • The player buys ‘chips’ to place a bet.
  • The maximum and minimum wagering limits are fixed.
  • The dealer shuffles the cards thoroughly.
  • A blank card is placed at the bottom of the pack to indicate time for reshuffling.
  • The player is allowed to offer the cut card.

how to playThe dealer must deal two cards to each player. To put it in another way, both the player and the dealer receive two cards each. After the player places his bet, the dealer offers one card face up to him and one to himself. The other card remains face down on the table. This rule, however, varies from casino to casino. For instance, the player could also receive both the cards either face up or face down.

Next, the player decides if he wants to hit (draw another card to improve the hand), stand (hold the total hand value and complete his turn), split (when he has two identical cards), or double down (double the bet and receive a new card). After this, it is the dealer’s turn to show the hidden card. He must hit till the hand value reaches 17 or more. His hand will remain incomplete if the player busts or receives a blackjack.

If the dealer and player receive the same total hand value, the game would be a ‘push’ (a tie) where the player won’t win or lose any money. Players should place a bet depending on what they feel would fetch them a higher hand value than the dealer without busting. A wise thing to do would be to assume the dealer already has a card valued 10 in the hole.

Win Potential

In a game of Blackjack, the payout depends on the wagered amount and also on the way you beat the dealer. The biggest advantage of an online casino is the player has to offer the cut card first and the dealer has to play the hand last. Finally, at the end of a hand, if your cards are closer to 21  than the dealer’s, your winning hand is paid 1-to-1 or an amount equal to the bet amount. The same is true if the dealer busts and you don’t. This is  known as even money payoff. However, in the case of player blackjacks  (naturals) the payout is 3-to-2. Here, the player receives 3 dollars for every 2 bets, which is 1.5X the wager.

There are many varieties of online Blackjack, each having different rules, side bets, and a unique twist to the gaming. These twists provide players with a choice of different gameplay for full entertainment. Popular online Blackjack variants include:

How to Play Blackjack at a Casino Online?

Blackjack is a game of skill and chance. Chance resides in the cards you receive and skill in the ways you play them. The idea is to make the most of whatever you have to take home massive payouts. Cross your fingers as much as you want, but you’d need the right strategy, too.

That’s the perfect recipe if you want to play Blackjack online, nail the game, and rake in the buck. Without it, the game would be whatever luck decides. However, if you take the time to learn the hands and look beyond the gaming table, you can win at an online Blackjack game like a pro!

Why you need Basic Strategy in Online Blackjack

Using the basic strategy when playing online Blackjack helps you decrease the house edge and greatly improve your profits. The basic Blackjack strategy tries to unmask all the possible card combinations such that you do not only bet with the unknowns but you have an idea of the expected combinations.

In addition to this, you can try other less complicated strategies. This starts by identifying where to play your Blackjack and choosing to play at trusted Indian casino online that have many Blackjack variants. You should also choose an online casino that accepts Indian Rupees so that you do not lose funds when converting them to other currencies.

Once you have identified the best casino, you need to choose the most profitable variant. You should also be confident that you know the rules of the particular variant. As a new player, you can learn how to play Blackjack by playing the free games on demo mode first. Once you have grasped the basics, you can play Blackjack for real money.

Blackjack Strategy Charts

Before playing online Blackjack with high stakes, it is advisable to study the various charts, which show you what a particular decision could lead to and how profitable a move could be. The basic strategy chart details include different combinations of a player’s first hand against the dealers’ first cards.

Most experienced players use the basic strategy charts to know the exact move to make and determine which cards scenario should make them hit, stand or take any other specific action. You can also memorize the chart as rules that concern which scenarios would make you choose to split your bets, decisions on hard and soft totals or when to surrender.

The charts also vary depending on the different game rules. To excel in using the basic strategy chart, you need to study it as often, practice and memorize it since you do not always have the time to refer to the charts in mid game whenever you are playing online Blackjack.

Your Decisions Would Determine Whether you make a Profit or Loss in Blackjack

In a game of Blackjack it is important to make the right decision at the right time. The first hand that you are dealt determines the next course of action, which, in turn, will guide you on how to progress with the gaming. As a rule, the dealer plays after you select your cards and he has an advantage over which action to take depending on the value of your cards. Each card combination is unique and determines whether your next round will result in a win, an ending of the game round or a continuation of the game round.

The game is played in a fast tempo and you need to be prepared in order to be confident on the next course of action.  This also includes knowing which strategy to use as you calculate whether your next action will bring you a loss or a profit.  The correct strategy would also help you greatly reduce the house edge. Below are some of the actions you have to take while playing online blackjack and they depend on the decision you make.

Better yet, make sure to pick an online casino from the list we’ve presented on this page.

Blackjack Terms Players need to Know

Before staking your funds on a blackjack game, is advisable to get the hang of Blackjack lingo and how to calculate the points. This starts by understanding the card values and which decisions you need to make when you land different card combinations. Here are some Blackjack terms and jargons you need to know.

Blackjack (Natural)

As discussed earlier, 21 is an automatic winning hand which contains an Ace and a 10 value card. It can be any of the following regardless of the suit symbols:

11 + 10 = 21 (Blackjack)
11 + 10 = 21 (Blackjack)
11 + 10 = 21 (Blackjack)
11 + 10 = 21 (Blackjack)

If the dealer and player receive the same total hand value, the game would be a ‘push’ (a tie) where the player won’t win or lose any money. Players should place a bet depending on what they feel would fetch them a higher hand value than the dealer without busting. A wise thing to do would be to assume the dealer already has a card valued 10 in the hole.

An automatic losing hand totaling to more than 21
7 + 10 + 5 = 22 (BUST)
10 + 10 + 5 = 25 (BUST)

A hand with an Ace at 11, which won’t bust if an additional card is allowed.

11 + 5 (SOFT 16)
Soft 13
11 + 2 (SOFT 13)

Hard hand without and ace

A Hard is any hand without an Ace

hard 16
10 + 6 (HARD 16)
hard 13
10 + 3 (HARD 13)

Hard hand with and ace

A Hard is any hand with an Ace counting as 1.

hard 14
10 + 3 + 1 (HARD 14)
7 + 10 + 1 (HARD 18)

Card Counting

counting cardsA term used for keeping track of Blackjack card values at a table, car counting is considered to be an unethical practice and practically impossible online. It operates where you can keep track of the number of high cards versus the number of low cards dealt in order to calculate the odds of what the next card might be. To use this strategy, players bet more when there is a possibility that the odds will favor them and they bet less when the odds are against them and they are less likely to win.

Some strategies will not be useful in online Blackjack gaming, no matter what. Card counting is one such strategy that has no place in the Blackjack online, but they may have a slight chance in live Blackjack. Online versions use Random Number Generators (RNGs) to shuffle the cards hence you cannot easily predict what the next dealt card will be. Additionally, the online games do not have a dealer dealing out the cards, not unless it is a live dealer blackjack version.  Hence, you won’t be able to correctly keep track of all the cards dealt by the virtual dealer.

Hit or Stand

HARD 13 - HIT!

When you get a hand that is nearer 21 than the dealers and you are confident with the outcome, you may Stand

This means that you do not get an extra card and your game round is over.

This could be based on the strength of your initial card or you are afraid that adding an extra card will make you go over 21.

You choose to Hit when you want to get an extra card in order to make your card combination close to 21.

You also Hit when you are positive that you will not bust when you get the extra card.

Split Pair

split pair2

To maximize on your profit, you have the option to split your bet. This is possible when you are handed 2 cards of the same value. You can split the cards into 2 separate hands and get new cards for each of the hands. Mostly, you can get up to 4 split hands.

You should also consider the rules of specific variants and the strategies that can lead you on a profitable win. For instance, you should always split 8’s and Aces and not 10’s. Splitting 8 is more likely to get you a better chance since having a total of 16 translates to a bad hand and a higher chance of going bust when you get a third card. When you split your bets, they become independent wagers and you have the usual options to either stand or hit.

Double Down

A double down is an option for a player to double his wager and draw just one card. This is an amazing option when you start your Blackjack gaming on a lucky streak and are confident of making a winning when you get the extra card. Simply double your bet, strike a win, and get huge payout.

Players need to be cautious when making this decision since it could also mean losing a bigger bet in case they lose. Consider the game rules to find out whether there is the option to double down.

You should also consider other rules such as not having any other chance to Hit after you have opted for double down and lost since you cannot undo this action.

Also, doubling down on some hands is more profitable than others. For instance, you stand to gain more by doubling when your initial cards make a total of 9, 10 or 11. In this case, you get more profit with a hard 11 against a dealer’s 6, than with a hard 11 against a dealer’s 5.

Similarly, you get more profit when you have a hard 11 against dealer’s 6 as opposed to a hard 10 against a dealer’s 6. Additionally, you benefit from this decision if you use it strategically such as doubling down when you have an 11 since you have high chances of getting a 10 as the third card. You should also double down on a hard 10 when the dealer’s hand is either 4, 5 or 6. Additionally, double down on a hard 9 when the dealer’s hand is either 5 or 6.

Insurance or Even Money

Insurance is an optional bet you can make when the dealer shows an Ace. You have the option to insure your bet or protect yourself from losing your stake if there is likelihood that the dealer will strike 21 in case his first card is an Ace. Depending on the variation, sometimes, you will be offered insurance if the dealer’s card is also 10. This is to protect you from losing your stake in case that the dealer’s next card enables him to reach 21.

Insurance pays 2:1, but is also limited to half the initial bet. In this case, if you lose to the dealer, you lose your bet but get double your insurance. This simply translates to gaining back your initial bet which is in essence ‘Even money’. It is however preferable to use this option sparingly since it is not always a certainty that the dealer wins if they start their hand with an ace.

Sometimes, depending on your hand, you may give up when you notice that you do not stand a chance of striking any winning. When you click on ‘Surrender’, you have the chance to salvage your loss and get back half the amount of your total wager. You should however check with your specific casino since it is not available in all online casinos. Additionally, this option is not available in some online blackjack variants. The surrender option is available in the case of 2 scenarios:

  • You have the option of early surrender when you consider your cards and the dealer’s first card is an Ace or a 10 and before he checks for a Blackjack.
  • You can opt for a late surrender when the dealer has checked and confirmed that he does not have a Blackjack.

Apart from the decisions that you need to make when playing Blackjack, you have the chance of earning extra money from gaming on the side. This includes placing side bets in addition to playing the normal rounds.

Side Bets

In addition to Blackjack presenting a chance to earn handsome payouts in real money, it is also an entertaining pastime. To make it even more interesting and challenging, you have the option to place side bets, which heightens the exciting game play. The available side bets vary from one online casino to another and also from one Blackjack variant to another. Additionally, the payout amounts, ratio and payout percentage will vary on different variants and casinos. It is, therefore, advisable to scout for the best online Indian casino that will give you favorable returns on your money. Some of the predictions and side bets that you can place include:

Mixed Pair (6:1)

This includes predicting what the combination of the first 2 cards will be. For instance, predicting that the first 2 cards will be a mixed pair is the easiest one since there is a large probability of this being true. This includes mixed cards without regard to its color or suit.

Betting on a pair of matching cards and the amount that you win on that bet varies.  Examples of pairs include mixed pairs of a Queen of Clubs and a Queen of Diamonds, 9 of Clubs and 9 of Diamonds but from different colors. It could also be on a pair of cards from the same color such as 9 of Clubs, 9 of Spades. If the face value matches, then you win the side bet.

Color Pair (12:1)

Here you bet on a possibility of the first 2 cards being a sam color pair.

This must be cards with the same color and face value (red/black)

Getting such a combination while playing online Blackjack is not easy hence the considerably high payout.

Perfect Pair (25:1)

This refers to a pair of similar cards such as two Queens of Hearts or two Jacks of Spades among others. The probability of landing this combination is lower hence; it pays higher at 25: 1.

The cards in this combination must be of the same value, color and suit. In this regard, is not possible to find this side bet when using a single deck game version. This is the absolute perfect pair although some casinos will provide you with other types of perfect pairs side bets.

This includes the colored perfect pairs where the cards colors match but do not have to be of the same suit. The mixed pair includes cards of the same suit but different colors. Understandably, these two versions of perfect pairs come with higher odds and pay at 5:1.

Blackjack 21 + 3

This is based on your first 2 cards and the dealers upturned card. It combines the blackjack gaming with 3 card poker and makes the game exciting. This is because you not only have to predict your first 2 cards but you also predict the dealer’s face card as well.

It comes in different combinations just as the ‘pairs’ that we have discussed above but with the added challenge of predicting the third card as well. A player can win when the 3 cards form different combinations such as Three of a Kind, Straight Flush, Straight, Flush, or Suited Trips. The different combinations come with different payouts depending on the odds of getting such combinations.

Flush (5:1)

In this side bet, you need 3 cards of the same suit. An example is 3 of Spades, Hearts or Clubs.

In this case, the face value and color do not matter and the probability of getting such a combination is high hence the payout is also considerably lower at 5: 1.

Straight (10:1)

This refers to any 3 cards in a sequence such as 6 of Diamonds, 7 of Clubs, and 8 of Hearts.

The cards face value is the only thing that matters in this combination and there are no regards to suit and color.

The odds of landing such a combination are also low hence; it pays at 10:1.

Straight Flush (40:1)

This combines the flush plus the straight side bet and increases the house edge since it is also highly unlikely to get such a combination.

This side bet requires that your first 2 cards and the dealer’s upcard form a combination of cards that follow a sequence and they must be of the same suit. An example is the combination of Jack, King, and Queen of Diamonds or 2, 3, and 4 of Clubs etc.

Three of a Kind (30:1)

This is also a hard combination to land on and hence it also pays highly in case you can predict it correctly.

This means that the first 3 cards should be of the same value. This is regardless of their color and suits. For example, 3 two’s, 3 seven’s or 3 four’s etc.  The 3 cards include your initial 2 cards and the dealer’s upturned card. The payout for this is 30: 1.

Suited Trips (100:1)

This is one of the rarest combinations to find while playing online blackjack and the payout is consequently very high.  This means that the first 3 cards should be of the same suit, color and face value.  An example of such a combination includes 3 suits of Queen of Diamonds, 3 fours of Clubs, etc. The house edge for this is also higher considering that it is a rare bet and the one that is less likely to occur and hence the house has a better advantage over the player.

Stiff Card

A card with value between 2 to 6 that forces the dealer to hit.

Cards with painted pictures – King, Queen, or Jack.

A tie between the dealer and player.

Pat Hand

An initial holding or Hard 17 or more.

Hole Card

The dealer’s card which is face down, unseen.

Ten-Rich Deck

A deck where cards with value 10 have been dealt more.

Ten-Poor Deck

A deck where cards with value 10 have been dealt less.

Live Blackjack

playing live blackjackLive blackjack provides you with a chance to enjoy playing your favorite Blackjack variant in a near-real casino environment where you can see the live dealer shuffle the cards and deal out the cards. This is absolutely entertaining and comes with the thrill of social gaming where you can chat with the dealer as you play. Many top online casinos in India have multilingual dealers who can easily converse in English and other native Indian languages hence making it easy to chat with them as you play. You can also chat with the other players on the table as you play your favorite live dealer blackjack variant.

You have the advantage of enjoying real life casino gaming from the comfort of your home or surrounding without having to travel to a casino premise. You would also be able to observe in real time as the cards are being dealt, thus minimizing the fear that you could be shortchanged from rigged outcomes. Additionally, you can play any time you want since the live casinos operate 24/7. However, note that you cannot play live Blackjack for free even though you can play the normal Blackjack video on demo mode.

Depending on your expertise and bankroll, you can opt to play Blackjack live or stick to the video version. This is because the live version comes with higher minimum bets and lower speed game play than the video version. However, it has its advantages since the live version comes with a lower house edge and offers you a slight chance to count cards, thus improving your chances of winning.

Online Blackjack Tournaments

Of all things grand about Blackjack, tournaments give you the best adrenaline rush. These are events held at online casinos (and even land-based casinos) between multiple players and could go on for 2 to 3 days! Players not only compete against the dealer like in normal games, but also against each other. These are held by different casinos and consequently come with different rules, entry fees and payouts. Playing at such tournaments are subject to invitation though.

To play, you need to pay an entry fee. Each player gets an equal number of chips for the competition. The aim of the game is for the players to compete against each other and the winner to emerge with the highest number of chips at the end of the round. The fast pace of the game makes it exciting and the huge prize is also something most players look out for. The tournament games come with slight differences in game play. This includes the following:

  • Players pitted against each other and contributing to the winner prize.
  • Losing only the entry fee instead of the entire bet money.
  • Gamblers getting an edge by beating fellow gamblers.

In Blackjack tournaments, the aim is to win as many chips as possible unlike winning your bet or money in Casino Blackjack. The many tournaments include Mini Tournaments, Major Tournaments, Satellites, Freerolls, Sit n Go’s, Eliminations, Non-Eliminations and Accumulations, Traditional Elimination, and Live Blackjack Tournaments.
